In 1996, itList.com was launched and started a spawn of other shared online bookmarking services. But social bookmarking as we know it started a few years ago when del.icio.us, Furl, and Simpy were launched. In 2003, del.icio.us pioneered the use of tags, and coined the term ‘social bookmarking’. Other social bookmarking sites are Sumbleupon, Netvouz, Digg, reddit, and Newsvine.
