Bye eBay ……. StumbleUpon Strikes out on its own
eBay, has lost it’s venture into the social web as their brainchild StumbleUpon breaks away to form their own company. The company says it is very thankful for the support of eBay yet they do need to re-focus their efforts into more social goals that might allow them to bolster their position in the social net. StumbleUpon is continuing to grow as they focus towards becoming the leader in the varied world of referral services and keeping their ties with eBay may diffuse their energy from attaining such a cause.
eBay may be on the way to disposing of it’s many successful startups company pool, many of which are very much distant from their primary money earner which is the online auction business. They are still trying to avoid the issues that were raised when the “Digg Bar” was introduced but they will surely be in the news of the social internet for the coming near future as they lay out more detailed plans for their expansion and breaking away.
