New Media Takes over the World of News
The recent death of MJ, the “King of Pop” pointed out a lot of important facts regarding new media, it was indeed faster that traditional news fronts but the time it took to verify and break the news through more established media fronts signified a hidden danger of new media, is it true? Much like the case of the New York Times Reporter who escaped captivity from the Taliban without the world knowing much about it, the speed at which new media breaks news was put to the test for the people behind the scenes who saw publication of the news as a danger withed the information till he escaped and gave the go ahead for it to go mainstream.
People decided it was a mere to dangerous to release information regarding his captivity they prevented it from being published allover the internet in fear of his safety which could have indeed influenced the whole deal, changing the playing field to unknown levels that may have ended his life prematurely.
New media is fast and more than often reliable but hold that publish button and make sure you have all the facts before you do, it can be a life and death situation.
